Welcome to this month’s Head Teacher’s Newsletter. In school, the field is full, Maths and Science are being taught outside and the first sounds of the Year 6 musical production are starting to emanate from the hall. Meanwhile, their parents start to wonder more about how their child will get on at secondary school.

Staying Sun Safe

As the weather warms up, please ensure children have applied sunscreen before coming into school. Staff will not be applying this at school. All children must be dressed in the proper summer uniform—blue/white dress, grey black or navy shorts or trousers or skirt; Coldfall logo polo shirt or sweatshirt/fleece. If sandals are worn, they must have good support and be flat (i.e., not flip flops or heels). However, to allow our children to fully access the OPAL play offer we highly recommend that they continue to wear trainers. Children should bring in a sunhat to provide to most protection from UV rays and stay hydrated by bringing water in a re-usable bottle.

Parent Governor Elections

We are pleased to announce the results of our recent Parent Governor Election. The successful candidates are: Iren Bains and Anne Douglass. Their first meeting will take place on 21 May when they will formally become members of the governing board.

Thank you to all candidates who took part, wrote statements and campaigned. We were overwhelmed by the interest shown and we hope this will continue into future elections.

Thank you also to everyone who voted. We also had a higher turnout than usual which is wonderful. We are lucky to have so many parents who are invested in the school.

The unprecedented number of candidates and ballots meant that publication of the results was unavoidably delayed, for which apologies.

Smartphone Free

I’m really glad to finally see some strong guidance from the Government about minimising screen time for our youngest children. It feels long overdue and necessary. Please remember that at Coldfall we want to protect children’s childhood. That is why we politely ask you not to be on your phones on the school playground at drop off and pick up. Be present. Be available. Set a positive example and be a role model for all the children.

We are holding workshops for all the children in KS1 and KS2 about safer screens in June. Thank you to the Friends of Coldfall for funding this.

School Donations

Pressures on school budgets are regularly in the news and despite our best efforts to generate income, make efficiencies and prudent choices they are affecting Coldfall like never before. We appreciate any contribution parents can make to the school and you can make a donation to the school by following the link below:
